2020 Lyndhurst Turkey Fair Cancelled

2020 Lyndhurst Turkey Fair Cancelled

Although choosing to skip a year of the Lyndhurst Turkey Fair was a difficult decision for the organizing committee, putting the health and safety of the community first was not.  The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many events to evaluate whether they will be able to run this year. The Turkey Fair committee has made this decision now in order to make everyone aware and so that all deposits and payments can be returned. The group feels it is a necessary safety measure for all concerned, including vendors, participants, attending public, volunteers and committee members.

Vendors who have prepaid will be contacted and reimbursed.

“Of course we are very disappointed not to have a Lyndhurst Turkey Fair this year, but the Fair has always been about community and so we know, at this time, we have to put the safety of all involved first,” said Mary Jo Sibbald, Chair of the organizing committee.

Never to be ones to sit around, the committee will continue to raise funds in anticipation of the 2021 Turkey Fair, which they plan to make an extra special celebration. Tickets for the gorgeous Turkey Fair quilt, hand-made by local guild The Stone Bridge Quilters, are available for purchase. As well, the 50-50 draw will still take place. Anyone can purchase tickets by emailing TurkeyFairRaffles@gmail.com. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

“We will continue to sell tickets to the raffles as we are obliged by OLG to hold the draw on the original date.  We hope that many will still buy tickets as it’s important that we continue to raise money in order to fund the Fair in 2021. Our goal is to always keep the Fair a FREE Day of Family Fun” said Terri Dawson, committee member. “Last year’s 50-50 draw winner received $1542. Maybe the pot won’t be quite as big this year, but every bit counts.” She also notes that despite canceling the Fair, there are ongoing expenses, such as insurance and incorporation costs, that must be paid and that the Fair has always worked on a shoe-string budget. Draw dates for both raffles are Sat. Sept. 19, 2020.

The committee sends out a sincere wish for the health of everyone who works hard to make the Fair a success year after year, as well as those who attend.  The group looks forward to seeing everyone at the Lyndhurst Turkey Fair in 2021. “The committee is fully committed to making 2021 a banner year for the Fair,” noted Sibbald.

The Lyndhurst Turkey Fair committee wishes to send out many thanks to all for such a great day! We had incredible weather this year! We hope you all enjoyed the day and took home good memories of your time at the fair. We appreciate all your feedback and please know that all comments and messages are being compiled for presentation to the committee. Your opinion matters to us and we make changes each year to try to improve the fair.

Thanks to all of our volunteers! Without so many coming together throughout the year and on the day, the Turkey Fair would not be possible. You’ve all created something wonderful!

Thanks to all of our donors, also without whom the fair wouldn’t be what it is. Whether it’s monetary donations, discounted rates, or items for the silent auction and prizes, we greatly appreciate the generosity that is show to our fair by local residents, businesses and artisans.

To our local villagers and businesses – your openness to sharing your property for fair events and the way you decorate and promote and take part in the fair shows our patrons what an incredible place this is to live. Thank you for your huge part in this day.

And to our fairgoers – we’re so grateful to have you all travel to our little village and enjoy all that we have to offer! It’s great to see people experiencing and enjoying this amazing place and we hope you’ll come back throughout the year!

See you next year on Saturday, Sept 19, 2020 for the 27th Turkey Fair!

What a great day it was! Thanks from the Turkey Fair…

Hey fairgoers! First some business…when the draw winners and unclaimed button numbers are compiled, they’ll be posted on the Facebook page and on the website, along with a post that will be sent to subscribers of this website. If you won an item at the silent auction, pick up is today from 10 am – 1 pm at the Outdoor Education Centre on the main street (next to Wing’s).

Wasn’t that an incredible day!? We’re so thankful that we had perfect weather. We definitely were due! We’re also thankful for all the patrons who came out and made the day so special. There were seasoned fairgoers and first-timers and it seemed that a great time was had by all. We had the biggest car show ever, great music all day, so many awesome vendors and tons of great food. To celebrate Canada 150 we had painted canoe paddles on display and to add to the celebration of our local history, information about our exciting archeological dig that happened just last week. Our beautiful waterfront is a special place for the villagers and we’re so happy to share it with all of you.

Thanks to everyone who participated to make the fair happen – volunteers who worked tirelessly to plan and prepare, those who came to physically make it happen and then take it all away. Without volunteers, the Turkey Fair (and really, our entire world) wouldn’t be what it is today. Seeing so many people come to enjoy the fair and having our village seen and loved by so many is a great reward.

We’ll see you all next year on September 15, 2018.

View the Canada 150 Paddles

Our township residents rose to the challenge when they were offered the opportunity to paint a canoe paddle to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. These beautiful works of art can be viewed throughout the Turkey Fair at the Lyndhurst Legion, the United Church, the Lyndhurst Library and the Anglican Church. It’s quite something to see!
