2020 Lyndhurst Turkey Fair Cancelled
Although choosing to skip a year of the Lyndhurst Turkey Fair was a difficult decision for the organizing committee, putting the health and safety of the community first was not. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many events to evaluate whether they will be able to run this year. The Turkey Fair committee has made this decision now in order to make everyone aware and so that all deposits and payments can be returned. The group feels it is a necessary safety measure for all concerned, including vendors, participants, attending public, volunteers and committee members.
Vendors who have prepaid will be contacted and reimbursed.
“Of course we are very disappointed not to have a Lyndhurst Turkey Fair this year, but the Fair has always been about community and so we know, at this time, we have to put the safety of all involved first,” said Mary Jo Sibbald, Chair of the organizing committee.
Never to be ones to sit around, the committee will continue to raise funds in anticipation of the 2021 Turkey Fair, which they plan to make an extra special celebration. Tickets for the gorgeous Turkey Fair quilt, hand-made by local guild The Stone Bridge Quilters, are available for purchase. As well, the 50-50 draw will still take place. Anyone can purchase tickets by emailing TurkeyFairRaffles@gmail.com. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.
“We will continue to sell tickets to the raffles as we are obliged by OLG to hold the draw on the original date. We hope that many will still buy tickets as it’s important that we continue to raise money in order to fund the Fair in 2021. Our goal is to always keep the Fair a FREE Day of Family Fun” said Terri Dawson, committee member. “Last year’s 50-50 draw winner received $1542. Maybe the pot won’t be quite as big this year, but every bit counts.” She also notes that despite canceling the Fair, there are ongoing expenses, such as insurance and incorporation costs, that must be paid and that the Fair has always worked on a shoe-string budget. Draw dates for both raffles are Sat. Sept. 19, 2020.
The committee sends out a sincere wish for the health of everyone who works hard to make the Fair a success year after year, as well as those who attend. The group looks forward to seeing everyone at the Lyndhurst Turkey Fair in 2021. “The committee is fully committed to making 2021 a banner year for the Fair,” noted Sibbald.
